GREENVILLE, Ill. - The defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan baseball team picked up where it left off last season, winning a doubleheader at Greenville College by scores of 9-1 and 3-0.

Jason Pankau pitched six shutout innings of one-hit baseball and struck out eight in the season opener and junior
Joe Sweeney went six innings and junior
Pat Hayn tossed a shutout inning in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Titans got single runs in the first and second innings and scored twice in the third when senior
Jeff Grodecki led off with a solo home run, followed by a double to rightfield by
Mark McDermott.
Kevin Sullivan flied out to right to send McDermott to third. After sophomore
Kevin Callahan grounded out to the pitcher, freshman
Jon Frericks singled to left field to chase home McDermott.
The Titans added four in the seventh inning when, with one out, Callahan walked, Frericks singled to left field and sophomore
Anthony Lopez walked to load the bases. Sophomore
Zach Scott singled to left field to bring home one run before senior
Ryan Hopp, who had three hits in the game, singled to bring home Frericks. AJ Nathan walked to score Lopez and Scott came home on a wild pitch.
Frericks had two hits and McDermott, Scott, Lopez, Callahan and Hopp had one each to provide the offense in game two as Sweeney struck out two and walked none.
