Titan Women Breeze Past Hendrix, 84-43, at St. Louis Tourney

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team never trailed and coasted to an 84-43 win over Hendrix in the consolation game of the Washington U. Thanksgiving Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 27).

IWU improved to 3-2 with the lopsided win while Hendrix fell to 1-5.

The Titans, who led 46-15 at halftime, got three players in double figure scoring, led by junior Melissa Gardner with 19. Senior Olivia Lett contributed 13 and sophomore Lexi Baltes added 11 and grabbed six rebounds.

Wesleyan held a commanding 55-41 rebounding lead as senior Brittany Hasselbring got eight boards and sophomore Taylor Reader got six. Hasselbring also made four steals.

The Titans made 31 of 73 field goal shots (.425) and connected on nine of 17 3-pointers (.529) while also making 13 of 16 free throws (.813). The 84 points is a season-high for IWU.

The Warriors shot only .234 from the field (15 of 64) and made just five of 18 from 3-point range (.278). Hendrix shot .533 (eight-of-15) from the free throw line. Hendrix shot just .192 (five of 26) in the first half as they saw the Titans shoot out to a 17-2 lead in the first 3:18 of the game.

Jamie Tate led Hendrix with 13 points and 16 rebounds. The Warriors were guilty of 18 turnovers while IWU had 13.

The Titans are idle until next Saturday (Dec. 3) when they play at 2 p.m. at the University of Chicago.
