Titans Lose CCIW Road Match to Bluejays in Three Sets

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost in three sets in conference play at No. 17-ranked Elmhurst on Tuesday (Oct. 25).

The Titans are 14-14 overall, have lost nine straight sets and finished the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season with a 2-5 record. The Bluejays won their 13th straight match and improved to 26-4 overall and finished 5-2 in the league.

As a result of finishing sixth in the league's regular season, the Titans will be back at third-place Elmhurst for a rematch next Tuesday (Nov. 1) in the play-in game for the CCIW tournament.

Junior Katie Rhoades led the team with nine kills and junior Alex Hill had six kills and a team-high three blocks. As a team, the Titans had 26 kills and 29 errors in 121 attempts for a negative attack percentage.
Senior Stacy Hassinger had 13 set assists and sophomore Erin Wachtel had 11. Defensively, freshman Maddie Greybar had 13 digs.

IWU lost the first set, 25-14. The set was tied early at 4-4 before Elmhurst went on a four-point run to lead 8-4. After IWU closed the gap to one at 8-7, Elmhurst went on a seven-point run to lead 15-7 and extended that to a 20-9 lead.

Elmhurst claimed the second set by a 25-18 score. After the Titans closed to within one at 11-10, the Bluejays scored nine straight to lead 20-10. The Titans fought off five set points to close to within the final margin.

The Titans lost set three, 25-16. IWU led 4-2 when Elmhurst scored six straight to take an 8-4 lead and went on a 12-2 streak to boost the lead to 14-6 and take control the rest of the way.

Illinois Wesleyan closes out its regular season with the Barker Chevrolet Classic III this weekend. IWU hosts North Park (3 p.m.) and Monmouth (7:30 p.m.) on Friday (Oct. 28) and Indiana-Northwest (10 a.m.) and Anderson (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday (Oct. 29).
