IWU, Bluejays Battle to 2-2 Tie in Women's Soccer

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team got a goal from freshman Tess Bottorff in the 83rd minute to even the score in a 2-2 double overtime tie against Elmhurst on Saturday, Oct. 15 at IWU's Neis Field.

The Titans' record is 10-2-1 and 3-0-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays are 10-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, Elmhurst opened the scoring at 47:27 on an unassisted goal from Valerie Wesley into the left side of the net after a long drive.

The Titans didn't wait long to tie the score when, at 50:01, senior Molly O'Brien got her 12th goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Tillie Bill. O'Brien moved into fourth place all-time at IWU with 42 career goals.

Elmhurst got an own goal at 52:31 to reclaim a 2-1 edge and Bottorff's goal, her first of the 2011 season, came at 82:23 on an assist from Jill Olliges.

The two squads battled through two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods.

Illinois Wesleyan had 15 shots on goal compared to 11 for Elmhurst. Titan keeper Zoie Samaan had five saves and Blujays' keeper Maddie Fitzpatrick made two saves.

IWU will host DePauw in a nonconference match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Neis Field.
