Stephanie Buhrow had 20 kills, six blocks and nine digs as the Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team won in four sets at North Park on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
The Titans, who improved to 13-9 overall and 2-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, won by scores of 23-25,25-20,25-12,25-17.
"We started off extremely slowly tonight," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "I was happy to see how we responded in the next three sets and our middle offense made the difference."
Buhrow's 20 kills is tied for fourth most in a four-set match at Illinois Wesleyan since 2002. She hit .515 in the win and was aided by the 10 kills from freshman
Maddie Greybar and nine kills from freshman
Kinzie Schweigert.
Defensively, sophomore
Sarah Blum had a team-best 15 digs while sophomore
Erin Wachtel had 11 digs and 47 set assists.
Junior co-captain
Alex Hill also had a solid night with seven kills, nine digs and four blocks.
The Titans travel to Holland and Grand Rapids, Mich., this weekend for the Hope/Calvin Tournament. At 18-0, Calvin is the No. 1-ranked team in Division III and Hope (15-3) is ranked No. 14 in the latest poll by the
American Volleyball Coaches Association.
IWU opens on Friday with Hope at 3 p.m. and Rose-Hulman at 5 p.m. On Saturday in Grand Rapids, IWU plays Albion at 12 p.m. and Calvin at 2 p.m.
