Volleyball Titans Split Saturday Matches in Barker Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team split its Saturday matches at the Barker Chevrolet Classic II, downing Culver-Stockton in four sets before losing to No. 22-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in four sets. The Titans now have a 10-8 record.

The Titans defeated Culver-Stockton, 25-18,22-25,25-15,25-21, and lost to the Warhawks, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. Complete tournament results are available by clicking here.

"We continue to maintain a higher level of play for longer periods of time," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "As a coaching staff, we feel that the team is progressing and continuing to move in the right direction despite the two losses this weekend."

Illinois Wesleyan junior Katie Rhoades was named to the IWU Barker Classic II all-tournament team and was joined on the team by Briana Kaiser and Emily Kaiser of Wisconsin-Platteville, Deandra Bockhold of Culver-Stockton College, and Heidi Buss and Sofia Sanchez of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Rhoades had 11 kills in the win over Culver-Stockton as freshman Maddie Greybar led the Titans with 14 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Sarah Blum also had 20 digs and sophomore Erin Wachtel had 16 digs and 44 assists.

Against the Warhawks, sophomore Stephanie Buhrow had 12 kills and junior Alex Hill added 10. Wachtel had 26 assists and a team-high 18 digs and Greybar added seven kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Miya Thalmann had 11 defensive digs.

The Titans' next action will be on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Carthage in a 7 p.m. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match.
