IWU Men's Basketball Takes Down Elmhurst, 75-55

BLOOMINGTON, Ill - Senior Sean Johnson made 11-of-14 from the field and scored 28 points to lead the llinois Wesleyan men's basketball team to a 75-55 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win over Elmhurst at the Shirk Center on Saturday, January 15.

The Titans held a 35-27 lead at the half but struggled early. IWU trailed by a 20-17 score with 10:08 to play in the first half before scoring 14 straight points to take a 31-20 lead before the Bluejays ended their nearly seven minute scoring drought.

Elmhurst scored the opening eight points in the second half to tie the game at 35-35 before IWU scored seven in a row to claim a 42-35 lead and stretched that out to a 52-42 advantage with 10:30 to play in the game.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW while the Bluejays are now 6-9 overall and 1-3 in CCIW games.

Senior Doug Sexauer was eight of 11 from the field and had 18 points.

IWU shot a torrid .630 from the field (29 of 46) and connected on seven of 15 3-point field goals (.467) while the Bluejays shot only .351 from the field (20 of 57) and was eight-for-23 in 3-point field goal tries (.348).

The Titans made only 10 of 20 free throws (.500) and the Bluejays made seven of their 11 tries from the line.

Illinois Wesleyan outrebounded Elmhurst, 33-31 as Johnson had a team-best six boards. IWU was guilty of 16 turnovers while forcing the Bluejays into 15.

James Robertson led Elmhurst in scoring with 14.

The Titans host Wheaton (11-4 overall, 2-2 CCIW) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19.
