ATLANTA, Ga. - Illinois Wesleyan senior midfielder Nick Jefferson was named to the all-tournament team of the Sonny Carter Invitational in Atlanta on Sept. 5. On the pitch on Sunday, the Titans fell to 0-3 this season as they lost to Oglethorpe, 4-1.
The Titans opened the scoring just 1:17 into the contest as freshman Mitchell Killough scored on a goal with an assist to Kyle Gorgol.
Oglethorpe tied the match at the 17:45 mark when Mark Lavery scored on a breakaway goal after a touch pass from Jeff Arsenault. Lavery scored his second of the game, an unassisted goal, a minute and a half later (19:17) to make the score 2-1 Oglethorpe.
The Storny Petrels (now 2-0-1) built up a 3-1 lead before halftime with a goal at 31:47 from Evan Britton on a header after an assist from Aaron Walker. Arsenault tacked on the final goal of the match at 57:02 with an assist to Nick Williamson.
The Titans had six shots with one shot on goal while Oglethorpe had 14 total shots with eight shots on goal. IWU keeper Frank Gorg made four saves.
The Titans will next play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the University of Chicago.
