PELLA, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team won a three-set match against Rockford after losing a five-set match to Buena Vista in the Central College Classic on Saturday, Sept. 25.
In the early game, Buena Vista defeated the Titans, 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 17-15, before IWU handled Rockford by scores of 25-10, 25-17, 25-11.
Sophomore
Alex Hill was chosen to the all-tournament team for the Titans along with Katie Vondrak and Lacie Drennan of Buena Vista; Heather Hyland of Rockford; and Haley Brillhart and Ashley Ellingson of Central.
In the win over Rockford, junior
Gaby Johnson led the way with 11 kills while Hill had eight kills and
Lori Johnson had six. Hill also had seven service aces and two blocks. The seven service aces is the third most in a three-set match for a Titan since 2003.
Freshman
Erin Wachtel led the team with 27 set assists and nine digs.

Sarah Blum each had eight digs.
Against Buena Vista,
Lori Johnson had 21 kills and
Gaby Johnson had 15 while freshman
Stephanie Buhrow added 14 kills with three blocks. Hill had eight kills and three blocks.
Junior setter
Stacy Hassinger made 51 assists and had 13 digs. Wachtel made 17 digs to pace the Titans and Blum dug out 16 balls.
IWU resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at North Central.
