Titan Volleyball Loses Two in Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a pair of matches at the Wheaton Five-Team Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Titans lost in five games to Kalamazoo and in three games to the University of Chicago.

The Kalamazoo Hornets beat IWU, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-13, in the early match of the day before the Maroons handled the Titans, 25-20, 25-19, 25-13.

IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown said, #We are struggling to find consistency from set to set. We have an 11 point lead and win by 2. Then turn around and we are down by seven in the next set. Mentally we have to be able to sustain our intensity and our level of play from the first whistle to the last."

Against Kalamazoo, junior Gaby Johnson had 19 kills with four blocks, freshman Stephanie Buhrow had 16 kills and senior Teresa Kirk had 10. Junior Stacy Hassinger had 52 set assists and made a team-high 15 digs.
Freshman Erin Wachtel had 11 digs and senior Teresa Kirk had 10.

In the Chicago match, Gaby Johnson had eight kills while senior Lori Johnson and Kirk each had six. Hassinger had 27 set assists and seven digs.
Freshman Sarah Blum led the Titans wih eight digs.
