Titans Battle No. 18 Bears to 1-1 Draw

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team played two extra periods and finished with a 1-1 tie against No. 18-ranked Washington U. at IWU's Neis Field on Sept. 15.

Freshman Erick Butt put the Titans (1-3-1) ahead at the 40:11 mark with a goal from 20 yards in front of the net that cleared above the outstretched reach of the Bears' keeper Andrew Serio. Stewart Turner-Jackson assisted on the goal.

The Bears (4-0-2) got their only goal with just 1:05 to play in the match on a counter by Cody Costakis on an assist from John Duncan. Washington U. outshot the Titans, 18-9.

IWU keeper Frank Gorg made eight saves and Washington U. had three saves from Serio and Jonathan Jebson.

IWU plays next at Principia on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
