Titans Fall to Cardinals in Regular Season Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team was limited to seven hits in a 4-0 loss to North Central on Sunday, May 9 at Horenberger Field. IWU heads into the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament on Thursday with a 19-19 overall record.

Senior rightfielder Mike Morrissey had two hits while senior second baseman Brett Moore, senior designated hitter Kraig Ladd, junior third baseman Jeff Grodecki, centerfielder Ryan Hopp and sophomore catcher Mark McDermott each had one hit in the game that had no extra base hits for either team.

Senior Paul Kabbes (1-4) was the losing pitcher as he allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits and struck out six in six innings. Alex Tosi tossed two scoreless innings and Joe Sweeney pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Illinois Wesleyan joins North Central, North Park and Carthage in the CCIW tournament starting on Thursday, May 13 in Naperville, Ill. Exact times and pairings will be posted on the CCIW baseball web site. The winner of the double-elimination tournament receives the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.
