BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team defeated Elmhurst, 5-4, to finish fifth in the 2010 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships, held May 7-8 in Bloomington.
The Titans finished with a 15-8 overall record and the 15 dual match wins is tied for second most in a single season for an IWU men's tennis team
The 2004 team was 20-5 and the 1997 squad had a 15-5 record.
Only five other Titan teams dating back to 1963 have registered double-figure dual match victories in a season - 1993 (13-3), 2003 (12-10), 2002 (11-9), 2000 (11-7) 1996 (10-6).
Against Elmhurst, the teams split in singles with each winning three. At No. 2,
Tom Deschler beat Dave Douglass, 6-4, 6-0; at No. 3,
Nick Kenaga was a winner over Dean Leventis, 6-3, 6-0; and at No. 6,
Sandeep Kola defeated Eric Moss, 6-4, 6-2.
But the Titans took two of three in doubles with the No. 1 team of
Brian Piotrowski and Deschler winning against Douglass and Jim White, 8-5, and the No. 2 team of Kenaga and
Michael Christison handling Leventis and David Devaney, 8-4.
