The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team has the No. 4 seed and will meet North Central, this year's conference champion, at 3 p.m. Friday, May 14, in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament at Zimmerman Stadium in Naperville, Ill.
The Titans enter the tournament with a 19-19 overall record and were 12-9 in the conference while North Central is 31-7 overall and won the CCIW with a 17-4 mark. The Cardinals,who are No. 22 in the May 11 D3baseball.com poll, won two of three from IWU last weekend in the regular season finales for both teams.
In the first game of the tournament at 12 p.m. Friday, Carthage (26-14, 13-8 CCIW), ranked fourth in the May 5 NCAA Division III Central Regional poll, matches up with No. 2-seed North Park (27-13, 15-6 CCIW). The league plays a postseason tournament to select its automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships, which get underway with eight nationwide regionals May 19-23.
This is Illinois Wesleyan's seventh straight CCIW tournament appearance and, since the tournament began in 1985, the Titans have won the tournament four times - 1989, 2001, 2005 and 2008.
