Titan Rally Falls Short in 7-6 Loss to Concordia

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan came back from a 7-2 deficit to close to within one run but got no closer in a 7-6 nonconference loss to Concordia Chicago on Thursday, April 29 at Horenberger Field.

The loss sent the Titans to three games below .500 for the season at 14-17 while the Cougars improved to 26-8.

IWU fell behind 2-0 in the third when Brandon Isaac clubbed a two-run homer, his 12th long ball of the season, but tied the game at 2-2 when senior Kraig Ladd singled to left center to bring home senior Mike Morrissey, who had singled, and senior Casey McIntosh, who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Cougars went ahead 4-2 in the fifth on two unearned runs and led 7-2 after scoring three more in the top of the sixth with a three-run homer from leftfielder Dan Linsner.

IWU plated three in the last of the sixth when, with one out, Brett Moore singled up the middle. After Morrissey flied out to right, McIntosh singled to left field and Ryan Hopp hit an infield single to load the bases. Pinch hitter #E.J. Schiller# just missed clearing the left center field wall and cleared the bases with a triple.

IWU's final run came in the seventh when freshman Zach Scott tripled and scored on a balk.

Joe Sweeney (2-2) took the pitching loss, striking out nine and allowing nine hits and five earned runs in six innings. Anthony Collaro (1-2) was the winning hurler, working six innings and fanning nine as 16 IWU batters struck out in the game. Tim Milroy struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth and earned his fifth save.

Illinois Wesleyan resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play this weekend with a 3 p.m. game at Elmhurst on Friday, April 30, and a 1 p.m. Horenberger Field doubleheader on "Seniors' Day" Saturday, May 1.
