BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team slipped below the .500 mark in a 5-2 loss to North Park on Friday, April 23, at Horenberger Field.
The Titans are 13-14 overall and 7-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings improved to 21-10 and a league-leading 10-3.
The two teams will play a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Horenberger Field on Saturday, April 24.
Senior rightfielder
Mike Morrissey got three of the six hits collected by IWU against North Park starter Mike Giovenco (5-4), who struck out 13 and walked four in a 150-pitch complete game.
Trailing 5-2 in the eighth, the Titans threatened against Giavenco, getting the bases loaded with no one out. Senior third baseman
Casey McIntosh led off and reached on an error by the third baseman, junior centerfielder
Ryan Hopp walked, and sophomore catcher
Mark McDermott singled on a perfect bunt down the third base line. But Giovenco then struck out freshmen

Zach Scott put a charge into a ball that rightfielder Devin Melecio circled and caught.
Senior
Paul Kabbes (1-3) took the loss as he allowed three in the first and single runs in the second and third before settling down to go eight innings, allowing 12 hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Joe Sweeney pitched a scoreless ninth for the Titans.
