WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning with three of the runs batted in coming from freshman
Kevin Callahan in a 9-5 win at No. 24-ranked Wheaton on April 16.
The Titans improved to 6-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and 11-12 overall while the Thunder is also 6-4 in the league and 19-7 this season.
The four-run ninth inning started when
Ryan Hopp bunted for a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Mark McDermott. Freshman shortstop
Anthony Lopez singled to right center to drive home Hopp. Freshman
Zach Scott then doubled to left field and Lopez went to third, After
Kevin Sullivan was intentionally walked and
Kraig Ladd struck out swinging, Callahan pinch hit for
Jeff Grodecki and singled to right field, bringing home all three runners.
Senior
Paul Kabbes went to 1-2 this season, pitching eight innings and striking out seven while walking only one and allowing 12 hits, four of them in the first inning.
Nick Mehn struck out one and walked one in a hitless ninth of relief.
The teams meet in a doubleheader at Horenberger Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
