LISLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team got two hits in a first game 6-2 loss and fell by a 5-1 score in the second game against non-conference Benedictine on March 30 in Lisle, Ill.
Senior second baseman
Brett Moore had a double and freshman shortstop
Anthony Lopez had a single to account for IWU's hits in the opener. IWU scored in the second when, with two outs,
Kraig Ladd walked and went to third on an error by the third baseman before scoring on Lopez's single.
They added another run in the fifth when
Ryan Hopp reached on an error by the third baseman, went to second when Moore walked and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Mike Morrissey. He then scored when
Casey McIntosh grounded out to shortstop.
Senior
Alex Tosi (1-3) started and allowed three runs in three innings on three hits while walking four and striking out three. Sophomore
Eric McCullough allowed three runs in 1/3 of an inning on two hits, a walk and a hit batter.
The Titans scored their only second game run in the fourth when Morrissey singled to center field to lead off the inning and went to third when McIntosh doubled to left field. Morrissey then scored when Hopp grounded out to third.
Morrissey had three of the Titans' seven hits and freshman
Zach Scott had two singles.
Kevin Sullivan (0-1) was the losing pitcher as he went four innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three.
Joe Froelich was touched for three earned runs on four hits in one inning of relief.
Illinois Wesleyan opens College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Friday, April 2, with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Millikin in Decatur, Ill.
