MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Visiting Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two innings as they rolled past the Christian Brothers University Bucs, 14-8, Thursday afternoon, March 18, at Buc Field.

IWU (which improved to 2-5) scored the game's first nine runs, with three in the first, five in the second, and one in the third before Alfredo Arroyo put the Bucs (4-20) on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer.

After IWU tacked on another run in the fifth, the Bucs answered with three in the bottom of the fifth. The Bucs cut the lead to 10-6 with a seventh-inning run and had the bases loaded with one out, but IWU reliever Paul Kabbes induced a groundout and a strikeout to escape the jam.

IWU scored four more in the eighth, and the Bucs added two ninth-inning runs to set the final margin.

Senior first baseman Casey McIntosh had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs while Jeff Grodecki also had two hits with a double and drove home three runs. As the team accounted for 16 hits, Mike Morrissey, Ryan Hopp and freshman shortstop Anthony Lopez each had two hits and Lopez walked four times. Catcher Mark McDermott scored three runs and senior Brett Moore drove home two runs with an eighth inning single.

Joe Sweeney started the game for IWU and pitched three innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Kabbes wrapped the game up by striking out six in 2 2/3 innings.
