JACKSON, Miss. - Illinois Wesleyan pounded out 12 hits and scored 10 runs but allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth and three in the last of the ninth to lose, 11-10 to Millsaps on March 17 in Jackson, Miss.
IWU, now 1-5 this season, trailed the Majors (who improved to 14-5) by a score of 3-1 going into the fourth before scoring six times to take a 7-3 lead.
In the big fourth inning, freshman
Kevin Callahan opened with a walk and the next two batters struck out. Callahan stole second and #E.J. Schiller
walked. Callahan advanced to third on a wild pitch and Schiller stole second. Junior Marc North
then walked to load the bases before senior Mike Morrissey
walked to bat home Callahan. Senior Kraig Ladd
singled to pick up two of his four runs batted in in the game before senior Casey McIntosh# singled to drive home Morrissey.
McIntosh and Ladd advanced second and third on a wild pitch before
Jeff Grodecki singled through the left side to score to more runs.
Senior
Joe Froelich started the game for IWU and lasted four innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out six. Sophomore
Eric McCullough tossed 3 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout and hit three batters. Senior
Alex Tosi (0-2) pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with a walk.
The Illinois Wesleyan spring trip continues with a single game against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn. on Thursday, March 18.
