IWU Baseball Loses 8-7 Game at Millsaps

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team fell to 1-4 this season as it dropped an 8-7 game to Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., on March 16. The Titans committed five errors in the game, allowing four unearned runs to cross the plate.

The Majors (13-5) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the 8-7 lead after the Titans had tied the game with two runs in the top of the inning. In the seventh with one out, #E.J. Schiller singled to left center and freshman Kevin Callahan walked after Jeff Grodecki lined out to center. Freshman shortstop Anthony Lopez reached on an error by the shortstop that loaded the bases. A single to right field by freshman Zach Scott# scored two runs.

The Titans got on the board with four in the fourth when, with one out, Casey McIntosh walked, Mark McDermott was hit by pitch and Grodecki singled to right field to score McIntosh. A home run to left center by Callahan scored three more runs.
IWU added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Lopez singled up the middle and Scott singled through the right side; Lopez, A. advanced to second. With two outs, Mike Morrissey singled through the left side to score Lopez.

Senior Brent Kulavic started the game for IWU and pitched six innings, allowing seven runs but only three earned runs. He struck out seven and walked four. Paul Kabbes was tagged with the loss as he pitched two innings and allowed one run coming on a triple and a single to the first two hitters he faced.
