BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team built up a commanding 46-22 lead at halftime and cruised to a 73-59 home court win over Elmhurst on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The Titans improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, in a tie for first place with Carthage (losers at home to Augustana on Feb. 6). The Bluejays fell to 6-15 overall and 1-9 in league play.
Junior
Duncan Lawson led the Titans with a 12-point effort, all coming on 3-pointers, while sophomore
John Koschnitzky and
Ryan Connolly each contributed 10 points in the win as the Titans' bench got 39 points to the Bluejays' 27.
The Titans, who outrebounded the Bluejays 41-20, shot 53 percent from the field (31 of 58) and connected on six of 18 3-point fielders (33 percent) but managed to make just five of 15 free throw tries (33 percent). Elmhurst shot 49 percent (25 of 51) from the field but made only two of 12 3-pointers.
Elmhurst, who outscored IWU 37-27 in the final 20 minutes, had 16 points from Zack Boyd, their only player in double figures.
Illinois Wesleyan travels to Decatur to meet Millikin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
