Sexauer's 27 Lifts IWU to 92-85 Home Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior Doug Sexauer had a career-high 27 points to lead Illinois Wesleyan in a 92-85 win over North Central on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Shirk Center. The Titans improved to 16-4 overall and 7-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Sexauer was 13 of 20 from the field and grabbed four rebounds. Junior Sean Johnson added 20 points, had four assists and got four rebounds.

Illinois Wesleyan shot 57 percent for the game from the field (33 of 58) and hit 19 of 28 free throws (68 percent) as Johnson and Travis Rosenkranz were both six-for-six and sophomore Jordan Zimmer was four-for-four from the stripe.

North Central shot 50 percent from the floor (30 of 60) and were paced by the 28 points of Derek Raridon and 26 from Reid Barringer. Raridon and David Twyman both had eight rebounds and Twyman tossed in 19 points.

The teams each had 31 rebounds and the Cardinals committed 11 turnovers compared to seven for the Titans.

The Cardinals led by as many as eight points in the first half (12-4 with 14:48 to play) but the Titans battled back to tie the issue at 26-26 with 9:19 left before intermission and held a 42-41 edge at the half. The teams traded the lead until 12:14 to play in the game when IWU snapped a 54-54 tie and took the lead to stay with a 3-pointer by Zimmer, followed 26 seconds later by a 3-pointer by junior Duncan Lawson.

IWU's largest lead was 11 with 4:50 to play in the game.

The Titans next host Elmhurst (6-14, 1-8 CCIW) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. The Bluejays picked up their first league win on Feb. 3 with a 66-58 victory at home over Millikin.
