ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Junior
Travis Rosenkranz scored a game-high 17 points and handed out five assists as Illinois Wesleyan held on for a 62-59 win over Augustana at Rock Island, Ill., on February 17.
The Titans improved to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, still one game behind Carthage, who was a 61-55 winner over North Park on Feb. 17.
The Titans, who are ranked No. 27 in the weekly
D3hoops.com poll, outrebounded the Vikings 31-28, shot 45 percent from the field (23 of 51) and connected on 11 of 14 free throw tries (79 percent). Augustana shot 49 percent (25 of 51) but made only four of nine free throws. Both teams made five of 14 (36 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.

Sean Johnson and
Duncan Lawson each contributed nine points and Johnson and junior Edmond O'Callaghan both had six boards.
Augustana scored the first two points of the game for their only lead in the contest and IWU reeled off nine straight to claim a 9-2 edge. The Titans led by as many as 13 at 24-11 with 8:17 to play in the first half and held a 35-27 advantage at intermission.
The Vikings, who got 16 points from Matt Pelton, fell to 15-9 this season and 8-5 in league play. Kyle Nelson added 12 points and had a game-best seven rebounds.
Prior to the CCIW tournament Feb. 26-27, IWU closes out the regular season portion of 2009-10 with a 7:30 p.m. game at North Park on Saturday, Feb. 20.
