Sarah Cotner each added 12 as the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Cornell, 79-65, on Nov. 27 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
The Titans improved to 2-2 while Cornell suffered its first loss of the year after four wins.
Preston made eight of 12 from the field, including five 3-pointers, and also collected five rebounds in the victory as IWU outrebounded the Rams, 39-36. Senior
Hope Schulte paced IWU with eight rebounds.
Illinois Wesleyan, who never trailed in the game, and Cornell were tied at 14-14 with 11:34 to play in the first half before IWU went on a 27-12 run to take a 41-26 halftime edge.
The Titans were 25 of 65 from the field (.385) and seven of 28 from 3-point range (.250) while connecting on making 22 of 30 free throws (.733).
Camille Marie-Lidd led Cornell with 19 points and seven rebounds. The Rams were 17 of 43 from the field (.395) and four of 14 from 3-point range (.286) while making 27 of 40 free throw tries (.675).
Illinois Wesleyan is idle until next Saturday, Dec. 4, when the Titans host the University of Chicago Maroons, who are 3-1 after an 85-55 win over Luther on Nov. 27.
