Sean Johnson scored 34 points and Illinois Wesleyan shot 54 percent from the field as the Titans improved to 5-0 with an 83-70 win over Dominican at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Nov. 27.
Johnson, the only Titan to score in double figures, was 12 of 18 from the field, made five of 10 3-pointers and hit five of seven free throws for his 34 points, the third most points by a Titan at the Shirk Center. Korey Coon had 42 against North Central on Feb. 23, 2000, and Bryan Crabtree scored 40 against Millikin on Feb. 24, 1996.
Illinois Wesleyan made 31 of 57 from the field, 10 of 22 from the 3-point area (.455) and made only 11 of 18 from the free throw line (.611). The Titans outrebounded the Stars (2-3) by a 33-27 margin and were led on the boards by junior
Dan Schouten and senior
Matt Schick. Junior
Ryan Connolly was the Titans' second highest scorer with nine points.
The Stars shot .472 from the floor (25 of 53) and made nine of 20 from beyond the arc (.450) while hitting 11 of their 14 free throw tries (.786). Dominican got 19 points from Marquis Turley and three players each had a team-high four rebounds.
IWU led 38-30 at the half and shot .600 from the field in the secon half from the field (18 of 30) to pull away in the win.
The Titans are right back at it on Monday, Nov. 29, with an 8 p.m. nonconference match at Webster in St. Louis.
