BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team got four players in double figure scoring, led by 18 from senior guard
Travis Rosenkranz, to post an 82-74 win over Ripon in the title game of the Frontier Communications/IWU Tip-Off Tourney on Nov. 20.
IWU improved to 3-0 with the win while the RedHawks fell to 1-1.
Buena Vista exploded for a 107-78 win (
box score) over Aurora in the third place game as Troy Ticknor hit six 3-pointers and had 24 points.
Senior
Doug Sexauer had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds and senior
Matt Schick had 15 points and four rebounds. Sexauer and Schick were chosen to the all-tournament team along with Scott Gillespie of Ripon, Doug Bissen of Buena Vista and Ryan Crow of Aurora.
Junior
Dan Schouten also collected 14 points for Illinois Wesleyan, who shot .509 from the field (28 of 55) and made 14 of 27 3-point shots (.519). iwU also knocked in 12 of 17 free throw tries (.706).
Senior
Sean Johnson had a team-high seven assists as 21 of IWUs 28 buckets came from assists.
The RedHawks shot an identical .509 from the floor (also 28 of 55) but made just three of 12 from beyond the arc (.250) and hit 15 of 19 free throws (.789). Ripon outrebounded the Titans, 31-28, and both teams were guilty of 11 turnovers.
Ripon also had four players in double figures with Gillespie leading the way with 19. Aris Wurtz had 17 points while Taylor Koth added 13 with eight rebounds and Nic Schaama had 11 points and also snared eight boards.
The Titans next play at Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23.
