KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball season came to an end with a four-set loss at No. 2-seed Carthage in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin volleyball tournament play-in match on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Illinois Wesleyan finished with an overall record of 11-20 as it lost by scores of 19-25, 17-25, 25-18, 12-25. Carthage improved to 28-7 and advances to play in the four-team tournament this weekend.
Junior
Gaby Johnson led IWU with eight kills while senior
Lori Johnson and sophomore
Alex Hill each had six kills.
Lori Johnson had a team-best four blocks while Hill and freshman
Stephanie Buhrow each had three blocks.
Senior
Teresa Kirk led the team with 12 defensive digs while freshman
Erin Wachtel had 11 digs and a team-high 16 set assists. Junior
Stacy Hassinger had 13 assists and five kills.
Michele Madeja had 14 kills and 14 digs to lead the No. 9-nationally ranked Lady Reds and Lauren Demboski had 11 kills. Carthage had 49 kills and a .287 hitting percentage while IWU had 37 kills and a .100 hitting percentage.
Tourney top-seed Millikin defeated North Park on Nov. 2 and will host the CCIW volleyball tournament on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 5-6. In the first semifinal match at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Carthage will play Elmhurst, with Millikin playing the winner of Tuesday's Wheaton/Augustana match at 7 p.m.
The championship match is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6.
