Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team split a pair of three-set matches in the Barker Chevrolet Classic III at the Shirk Center, losing to Wisconsin-Platteville and defeating Monmouth.
The Pioneers defeated the Titans, 25-13, 25-17, 25-16 before Illinois Wesleyan downed Monmouth, 25-17, 25-16, 27-25.
"This weekend I saw our team execute some of the things we've been working on in practice and have success with that," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "It was great to get a win for our final match of the season at home and for our two seniors,
Teresa Kirk and
Lori Johnson."
Against Platteville, Johnson, freshman
Stephanie Buhrow and sophomore
Alex Hill each had five kills and Hill led the team with two blocks. Freshman
Erin Wachtel had team-bests of 21 set assists and 12 defensive digs while sophomore Stepanie Polich had 10 digs.
In the win over the Fighting Scots, Buhrow had 16 kills while Johnson and Hill each had six kills and four blocks. Wachtel again led the team with 26 assists and 11 digs with Polich and freshman
Sarah Blum each making six digs.
The Titans are now 11-19 overall and will face No. 2 seed Carthage in Kenosha, Wis., on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the first round play-in game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament.
