IWU Volleyball Claims First Conference Win

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team captured its first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin victory of the season, earning a 3-1 decision over North Park on Friday, Oct. 29.

Playing the opening match of the Barker Chevrolet Classic III, the Titans improved to 10-18 overall and 1-6 in the CCIW, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, on "Seniors' Day" honoring Lori Johnson and Teresa Kirk.

"It was good to finally earn a 'W' in the CCIW," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "We definitely needed that as we head into CCIW tournament play next week. We have a tough day ahead of us tomorrow and hope we can use some confidence that we gained today to help us through the next two matches."

IWU plays Wisconsin-Platteville at 10 a.m. and Monmouth at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Titans will face No. 2-seed Carthage at 7 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis., on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the first round of the CCIW tournament.

Against North Park, Lori Johnson had 17 kills while freshman Stephanie Buhrow had 15 and sophomore Alex Hill added 12.
Kirk led the team with 12 defensive digs while sophomore Katie Rhoades had 11 and Lori Johnson, sophomore Stephanie Polich and freshman Sarah Blum each had 10 digs.
Freshman Erin Wachtel paced the Titans with 44 set assists while Lori Johnson and Hill each had four blocks and junior Gaby Johnson had three blocks.
