Titan Men's Soccer Loses at Augustana, 2-1

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team lost its first conference match of the season, falling 2-1 at Augustana on Saturday, Oct. 23.

The Titans, who were No. 3 in the Oct. 20 NCAA Division III Central regional poll, are 6-6-2 overall and now 3-1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Vikings improved to 7-9-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the league. 

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Kyle Gorgol opened the scoring for the Titans at 51:52 with his third goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Sam Peniak.

Augustana tied the issue at 64:12 when Sean Fidlow had his fourth goal of the season with an assist to Michael Buric. 

The Vikings went ahead to stay at 74:56 on a penalty kick by Greg Maggio. 

Illinois Wesleyan outshot Augustana, 13-12 and senior keeper Frank Gorg had four saves compared to seven by Augustana's Tyler Cowherd. 

IWU's “Senior Night” will be next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when the Titans host Wheaton.
