IWU Volleyball Loses Pair in Simpson Tournament

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Illinois Wesleyan's volleyball team fell to 9-17 with a three-set loss to No. 15-ranked St. Olaf and a 3-1 setback at the hands of Gustavus Adolphus at the Simpson College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Sophomore middle blocker Alex Hill was named to the all-tournament team, the third all-tourney squad she has been selected to this season. The tournment "MVP" was Kim Smisek of St. Olaf, and Hill was joined on the all-tourney team by Kelly Prunty, St. Olaf; Katy Krajnak and Caitlyn Hogan of UW-Whitewater; Ramey Sieck of Wartburg; Ashley Padgett of Simpson; and Jenny Ewert of Gustavus Adolphus.

The Titans lost to St. Olaf in the first match of the day by scores of 14-25, 21-25, 14-25.
Hill had six kills and four blocks and freshman Stephanie Buhrow also had six kills as the Titans accounted for only 17 kills in the match.
Freshman Sarah Blum led the team with 14 digs and freshman Erin Wachtel had nine digs and team-highs of 12 set assists and five blocks.

Gustavus Adolphus downed IWU, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14 in their final match of the tournament Saturday.
Hill led the team with 11 kills and had three blocks while senior Lori Johnson had nine kills and four blocks and Buhrow also had nine kills.
Wachtel had 28 set assists and 14 digs as Blum led the way with 23 defensive digs. Sophomore Katie Rhoades had 15 digs and freshman Miya Thalmann added 10 digs.

IWU has 10 days off before returning to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action at Wheaton on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
