INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team fell to 9-15 as it lost two matches at the Simpson College Tournament on Friday, Oct. 15, falling in four sets to Wartburg College and in three sets to the host school.
The scores of the Wartburg match were 10-25, 15-25, 25-22, 21-25 while IWU lost to Simpson 19-25, 15-25, 20-25.
"I was very optimistic after our match on Tuesday that we made strides in the right direction," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "Unfortunately we returned to some of our old ways today. When you are two-thirds of the way through your season, you shouldn't be trying a whole new line up. Due to our inconsistencies from player to player; game to game; we've been left no choice. With so much youth on our team, we'll have to continue to work through some of these growing pains and push to find a way."
Against Wartburg, senior
Lori Johnson led IWU with nine kills while freshman
Stephanie Buhrow had six and sophomores
Alex Hill and
Eryn Finet each had five. Hill led the team with five total blocks.
Freshman
Sarah Blum had 18 defensive digs and junior
Stacy Hassinger had 12. Senior
Teresa Kirk provided 28 set assists and had nine digs.
In the Simpson match, Johnson and sophomore
Katie Rhoades paced the Titans with six kills while Johnson had four blocks and Buhrow and Hill led the team with five blocks.
Freshman
Erin Wachtel had 19 set assists while Rhoades and Blum each accounted for eight defensive digs.
