BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost in four sets to No. 7-ranked Carthage, 28-30,15-25,25-23,18-25, at the Shirk Center on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
In the "Dig for a Cure" match where money raised will be used to benefit the 
Harcar-Manzella family, IWU fell to 9-13 overall and 0-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Carthage improved to 18-6 and 5-0 in the league. Carthage has won nine straight matches, 13 of its last 14 contests, and extended their CCIW record to 49 straight regular-season conference victories.
"Overall I feel our team turned a corner tonight," said IWU head coach 
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We played with more intensity, more determination, and more consistency. There were many positives from this evening's match and we need to build upon them for this upcoming weekend."
Sophomore 
Alex Hill and senior 
Teresa Kirk each had 11 kills to pace the Titans while senior 
Lori Johnson added 10 kills.
Junior setter 
Stacy Hassinger had 39 assists while freshman 
Sarah Blum had a team-high 17 defensive digs while Kirk had 14 and freshman 
Erin Wachtel added 11 digs.
The Titans hit .124 in the match, making 48 kills in 161 attempts but admitted to nine service errors and seven receiving errors.
Illinois Wesleyan next travels to Indianola, Iowa, this weekend for the Simpson College Invitational and will face Wartburg at 3 p.m. and Simpson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, then St. Olaf at 10 a.m. and Gustavus Adolphus at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
