Box Score Illinois Wesleyan 84, North Central 79 - Box Score, Jan. 6

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Junior Doug Sexauer made 11 of 12 field goals en route to 23 points as Illinois Wesleyan defeated North Central, 84-79, in Naperville on Jan. 6.

The Titans, who improved to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, shot a torrid 62 percent from the field (31 of 50) in the win.

Junior guard Sean Johnson added 12 points while sophomores Jordan Zimmer and Ryan Connolly each scored 10. Junior Edmond O'Callaghan led the team with six rebounds to go along with six points and IWU outrebounded the Cardinals, 28-25.

The Titans dug out of an early 9-2 hole with 17:11 to go in the half, responding with a 13-0 run to take a 15-9 lead with 12:21 to play in the first half. The Cardinals closed to within three at 17-14 at the 11:34 mark but got no closer as the Titans held a 39-31 edge at intermission.
North Central got as close as 50-48 with 13:58 to play in the game but IWU used 3-pointers from Dan Schouten and Zimmer to claim a 56-48 lead.

North Central, who committed only nine turnovers in the contest, fell to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the league as it shot 45 percent from the field (27 of 60) and could find the range on only two of 13 3-point attempts. The Cardinals got 34 points from Derek Raridon, 24 from David Twyman and 16 from Brian Evans, who had a game-high eight rebounds.

The Titans return home for a 4:30 p.m. game Saturday, Jan. 9 against Carthage (9-3, 1-0 after a 75-62 win over Wheaton on Jan. 6). The 100th anniversary of IWU men's basketball will be celebrated at halftime of the game with introduction of all attending players and after the game with a chili supper in the Shirk Center activities gym (indoor track area).
