WHEATON, Ill. - A rebound basket by Andrew Jahns at the buzzer gave Wheaton a 66-65 home win over Illinois Wesleyan at King Arena on Jan. 20.
The loss ended the Titans' eight-game winning streak and sent the team's overall record to 13-3 with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin mark of 4-1. IWU came into the game ranked No. 17 in the weekly D3hoops.com poll.
The Titans trailed, 64-58, with 53 second left but scored on a
Doug Sexauer basket with 43 seconds left to make it 64-60, then a turnover gave the ball back to IWU and
Jordan Zimmer made two free throws with 23 seconds left.
Another Wheaton turnover gave the ball to Illinois Wesleyan and junior
Sean Johnson made a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to give IWU a 65-64 advantage.
A late shot by the Thunder's Ben Panner was missed but Jahns grabbed the offensive board and scored the game-winner as time expired.
Sexauer led IWU with 23 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field while senior
Sean Dwyer and junior Edmond O'Callaghan each had 10 points. O'Callaghan and Sexauer each had six rebounds as IWU outrebounded the Thunder, 33-32.
IWU shot 41 percent from the field (25 of 61) while the Thunder shot 48 percent (24 of 50)
Tim McCrary had 31 points and Panner added 14 to lead the Thunder, who improved to 3-2 in the CCIW and 11-5 overall.
The Titans next host North Park at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24 at the Shirk Center.
