Titans Go 1-3 in Whitewater Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team split a pair of matches on Sept. 26 to finish 1-3 in the Wisconsin-Whitewater weekend tournament.

On Saturday, the Titans defeated Iowa Wesleyan, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17, before losing to Wisconsin-River Falls, 25-22, 26-24, 27-25.
"It's difficult to win a match when you give up 40 unforced errors and we lost by total of seven points," said IWU coach Kim Nelson Brown. "It was extremely frustrating to see us play as poorly as we did."
Against Iowa Wesleyan, senior Amy VanDerVoorn had a team-high 10 kills and made five digs while senior Emily Hagen and freshman Alex Hill each had seven kills. Sophomore Stacy Hassinger had 24 set assists and made 13 defensive digs while senior Jackie Wrobel had 14 digs. Hagen also had one solo block and four block assists.
In the loss to Wisconsin-River Falls, sophomore Gaby Johnson had 14 kills, three service aces and two block assists. Hagen added 11 kills and had five block assists. Hassinger had 38 assists and 10 digs and Wrobel again led the way with 17 digs.

DAY ONE RESULTS
The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team extended their opponents to five sets but lost a pair of matches at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament on Sept. 25.
The Titans lost to No. 12 nationally-ranked host school, Wisconsin-Whitewater, by scores of 25-12, 22-25, 20-25, 25-14, 17-15, then lost to Wisconsin-LaCrosse, 13-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-8.
"At times our play was extremely aggressive tonight," said Nelson-Brown. "In both matches, we were up in sets and were unable to finish the match. Hopefully the team can learn from this and bounce back tomorrow."
Against Whitewater, Hagen had 14 kills and Gaby Johnson added 12. Hassinger had 40 set assists and made a team-best 15 defensive digs while VanDerVoorn added 10 digs.
In the match against LaCrosse (which the Titans led 2-0 before losing the final three sets), Hagen had 19 kills, Gaby Johnson had 12 and junior Lori Johnson had 12 as the Titans had 64 kills and a .273 hitting percentage in the match. Hassinger had 50 set assists and 13 digs, Wrobel had a team-leading 19 defensive digs and VanDerVoorn added 12 digs.
