Box Score The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team took a 16-7 win over North Park at Horenberger Field on Thursday, April 23. The Titans improved to 21-9 overall and 12-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Senior shortstop
Tim Marzec had four hits in the win.
Marty Roche pitched three innings of relief to earn the win and improve to 1-1.
Jason Pankau was the starter and struck out seven in four innings.
The Titans scored one in the first when
Mike Morrissey singled to center and scored on a double by
Kraig Ladd, then added two in the second as
Kevin Goshorn singled,
Bob Huppert walked and
Pat Garvey singled home Goshorn. A single by Marzec loaded the bases and
Brett Moore drove home Huppert with a sacrifice fly.
After scoring one more in the third, IWU added four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. In the fourth, the Titans loaded the bases with a Marzec single and walks to Moore and Morrissey. Ladd scored Marzec on a sacrifice fly and
Jeff Grodecki hammered a three-run homer.
In the fifth, Huppert led off with a double and went to third on a single by Garvey. Marzec singled home Huppert and Moore was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Morrissey drove home two runs with a single and Ladd singled home Moore. Morrissey scored when
Casey McIntosh grounded into a double play.
The Titans tacked on two runs in the eighth.
North Park dropped to 14-18 overall and 4-11 in the CCIW. Jake Hollinsaid fell to 3-4 with the loss.
