Box Score 2 The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team improved to 20-8 overall and 11-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a pair of wins at North Park on April 18. The Titans claimed 8-0 and 7-3 victories in Chicago.
Game one box score, April 18
Lefthander
Joe Froelich (5-2) pitched eight shutout innings in game one, allowing five hits and walking only one. Senior
Matt Aronson pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Titans scored three in the third when
Tim Marzec walked, advanced to second on a
Brett Moore sacrifice, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Mike Morrissey single. Morrissey went to second on a ground out and scored on a base hit by
Kraig Ladd. Ladd also scored on the play after an error.
IWU added two more in the fifth when Moore led off with a triple and scored on a
Casey McIntosh double. Ladd singled and stole second and scored on a
Jeff Grodecki hit.
Two more runs scored in the seventh when
Bob Huppert walked,
Pat Garvey was hit by a pitch and Marzec singled to load the bases with none out. Moore then singled home Huppert and Garvey eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Game two box score, April 18
The Titans trailed 3-1 going into the sixth before a solo home run by Moore and a two-run homer by Ladd gave IWU a 4-3 lead.
IWU added two more in the seventh when Huppert and #Charlie Capozzoli# walked. After Marzec forced Huppert at third, Moore singled home Capozzoli and Marzec scored on a Morrissey base hit.
Pat Kirchhofer (3-3) was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and allowing three hits in seven innings.
Paul Kabbes earned his second save in tossing the last two innings.
