Box Score Improving to 3-1, Illinois Wesleyan pounded out 24 hits and scored in seven of the nine innings to defeat DePauw, 23-7, at Walker Field in Greencastle, Ind., on Sunday, March 7. The Tigers dropped to 6-4 with the loss.
Down 1-0 in the second, the Titans took the lead as
Tim Marzec drove in
Bob Huppert with a sacrifice fly and
Pat Kirchhofer scored after
Brett Moore reached on an error.
Kirchhofer hit a two-run homer to left center in the fourth to make it 4-2, then Illinois Wesleyan's first five hitters in the fourth collected hits capped by
Casey McIntosh's three-run homer. They added two more in the inning to extend the lead to 11-3. The Titans scored seven in the fifth on Huppert's grand slam to left center and Marzec's three-run shot to left.
The Titans scored one more in the sixth and two each in the seventh and ninth before the Tigers added three in the ninth.
Marzec, Moore and
Kevin Goshorn each had four of the Titans' 24 hits, while
Kraig Ladd and Huppert each had two. Marzec drove in five, while Huppert finished with four RBI.
Geoff Page delivered Illinois Wesleyan's fifth homer of the day with a two-run blast in the ninth.
