Jordan Zimmer scored a career-high 35 points as Illinois Wesleyan downed Southwestern U., 91-75, in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 29.
Zimmer was named the tournament "MVP" and was joined on the all-tourney team by junior
Sean Johnson, who added 15 points in the win and handed out a team-high seven assists.
Zimmer's previous career best was the 28 points he scored yesterday as the Titans got a 96-67 win over Trinity (Texas).
Against Southwestern, junior
Doug Sexauer scored 16 points and snared 10 rebounds and junior
Travis Rosenkranz scored 11 points and dished out six helpers.
The Titans improved to 9-2 with the help of outstanding second half shooting, connecting on 20 of 30 from the field (.667) and shot .556 from the field in the game (35 of 63). IWU also held a 36-29 rebounding advantage in the game.
The Titans led by 14 at 31-17 with 8:58 to play in the first half before the Pirates mounted a charge and trailed only 42-38 at intermission. Southwestern (8-2) rallied to tie the game at 46-46 but a 3-pointer by Zimmer with 17:23 left in the game gave IWU a lead it would never relinquish.
Travis Barber and Zach Bergstrom had 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Southwestern.
Illinois Wesleyan's next action will be Wednesday, January 6 at North Central for a 7:30 p.m. game in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season opener.
