BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a slow start and leading by only six at the half, the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team outscored Webster 44-21 in the second half to post a 78-49 win at the Shirk Center on Nov. 18.
The Titans improved to 2-0 with the win and will play Johnson and Wales at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in the first round of the Tip-Off Tournament. Top-ranked Washington U. will meet Ohio Wesleyan at 6 p.m. that night. The third place game will be at 2 p.m. with the championship game slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.
In the win over Webster, sophomore
Jordan Zimmer came off the bench to lead the Titans with 16 points while sophomore
Ryan Connolly also contributed 13 points in a reserve role. Juniors
Doug Sexauer and
Sean Johnson each scored 12 points and Sexauer grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds as the Titans outrebounded the 0-1 Gorloks 39-38.
In the game IWU shot 44 percent from the floor (28 of 64) and connected on only four of 16 3-point attempts. Webster, after shooting 50 percent in the first half (12 of 24), shot just 24 percent in the final period (seven of 29) to finish at 36 percent for the match.
