ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team's brilliant 2009 season came to an end with a 1-0 overtime loss in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 15 at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.
Washington U. senior Elyse Hanley scored two minutes into the first overtime to lead No. 17-ranked Washington University into the NCAA second round.
Washington U. (16-3-1) advances to take on No. 24-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) in the sectional semifinal on Friday at a site to be determined. The Thunder, from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, beat No. 11 University of Chicago, 1-0, on Saturday.
Caryn Rosoff headed a pass to Becca Heymann, who took the ball down the sideline. Heymann made a move on an IWU defender before going up the end line, before sending a cross to Hanley, who one-timed it past IWU goalkeeper
Alli Novak for her third goal of the season. Novak made eight saves in the match.

The series between Illinois Wesleyan and Washington U. is even at 4-4-4 and all 12 meetings in the series have been a one goal or fewer differential.
