Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost for the first time in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, falling 3-2 to North Central on "Dig for the Cure" Night at the Shirk Center Oct. 6.
The Titans, 14-9 overall and 3-1 CCIW, fell by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 26-28, 10-15 to the Cardinals, who improved to 19-1 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW. The Titans held a 26-25 lead in set four with the serve but North Central rallied for the final three points and the win.
"Tonight was the best defensive match that we've had all season," said IWU coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "Unfortunately we were not able to come through offensively at times or finish in pressure situations. We need to continue to challenge our players mentally in practice so we can eliminate the unforced errors in crunch time."
Sophomore
Gaby Johnson, the current CCIW "Offensive Player of the Week", led the Titans with 21 kills, seven blocks and nine digs. She had a .415 hitting percentage.
Senior
Emily Hagen had 11 kills and junior
Lori Johnson made 10 kills with eight blocks and 14 digs.
Freshman
Jessica Spence paced IWU with 15 defensive digs while senior
Amy VanDerVoorn had 13 and senior libero
Jackie Wrobel had 12.
Sophomore setter
Stacy Hassinger had 56 assists and nine digs.
IWU is idle until hosting Augustana next Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
