Box Score 4 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team finished 1-3 in its own weekend tournament after splitting matches with UW-Platteville and Trine on Oct. 3.
On the final day the Titans (14-8 overall) lost to Wis.-Platteville, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25,15-10, before beating Trine, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.
Against the Pioneers, sophomore
Gaby Johnson, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 16 kills, five digs and three blocks. Junior
Lori Johnson made 14 kills and had 10 digs and senior
Emily Hagen had 13 kills and five blocks. Sophomore
Stacy Hassinger had 44 assists and nine digs and senior
Jackie Wrobel made 15 digs.
In the win over Trine,
Lori Johnson and Hagen each had nine kills and Johnson had nine digs.
Gaby Johnson added six kills and freshman
Katie Henning had eight kills in two sets. Hassinger had 33 assists and Wrobel contributed 11 digs.
"After taking a big step forward last night, I feel like we took a small step backwards in our match against Platteville," said IWU's
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We need to learn how to keep our intensity level the same from the first whistle to the last."
DAY ONE RECAP
The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost in three games to Capital and in four games to No. 7-ranked Hope at the Barker Chevrolet Classic II at the Shirk Center on Friday, Oct. 2.
Capital Crusaders downed IWU, 25-17, 25-20, 25-15, the afternoon play and the seventh-ranked Flying Dutch topped the Titans, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, in the night session.
"In the past week, our team has struggled with confidence and I believe we showed that during our first match today," said Nelson-Brown. "To see the team rebound and play so intense was exactly where they were mentally two weeks ago. Even though we lost both today, I feel the team is in a much better place going into the last half of our season."
Against Capital, Hagen had 11 kills and
Lori Johnson had six kills and three blocks. Hassinger had 25 assists, Wrobel made 11 digs and senior
Amy VanDerVoorn had nine digs.
In the Hope match the Titans made 15 service errors.
Gaby Johnson had a team-high 15 kills and VanDerVoorn made 11. Hassinger had 43 set assists while Wrobel had 13 digs and
Lori Johnson made 10 defensive digs.
