Amelia Marino

Amelia Marino (nee Glueck), a nine-time NCAA All-American as a student-athlete at Illinois Wesleyan, was named the Head Women's Track and Field Coach at her alma mater Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

Marino, a four-year letterwinner for the Titans from 2015 until 2018, is one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. To this day, she remains the program record holder for both indoor and outdoor long jump.

Replacing an Illinois Wesleyan athletic department staple of more than 20 years leaves large shoes to fill, especially when the post has been held by someone as beloved as Chris Schumacher. Throughout his tenure at IWU, he has always been about developing people through the lens of athletics. Fittingly, he passes the baton to one of his former standout student-athletes in Marino.

A two-time First Team Academic All-America selection, Marino was the 2018 recipient of the NCAA’s Elite 90 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average among athletes qualified for the national meet. She won the Division III Outdoor Long Jump title in 2016 and 2018, also earning Division III Scholar Athlete accolades from the United Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. In her national title jump as a senior, Marino claimed the national championship with a school record leap of 19 feet-10.25 inches.

Marino, a nine-time NCAA All-American during her four-year reign, was a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award in 2018. She dominated the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin scene, racking up eight individual and relay league titles and earning 31 All-CCIW honors. Additionally, she was named the CCIW Athlete of the Week five times.

A native of Pekin, Ill. and product of Tremont High School, Marino graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 2018 with a degree in health promotion and fitness management. She earned her master’s degree from Illinois State University in 2020.

Marino and her husband Pat, a former assistant coach for the IWU men’s basketball team, live in Bloomington.
