CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell to Wabash College, 2-0, Saturday, Sept. 5. The Titans slide to 0-1-1 while Wabash improves to 3-0.

IWU outshot the Little Giants 12-11, however, Wabash put six on frame compared to the Titans' five. Seniors Matthew Perchik (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier) and Ryder Coleman (Bannockburn, Ill.-Deerfield) led Illinois Wesleyan with four and three shots, respectively.

Both teams registered five shots in the first half. Despite an early chance for IWU, it was Wabash that found the back of the net in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. A lengthy weather delay paused the match midway through the opening half. After action resumed, both defenses stood tall to keep the score at 1-0 into halftime.

In the second half, sophomore goalkeeper Reid Monken (Terre Haute, Ind.- Terre Haute North Virgo) made his first appearance of the season for the Titans. He finished the match with three saves over the final 45 minutes. Eight minutes into the half, Perchik put a shot on net, but it was turned aside by the Little Giants. Less than a minute later, Ryder Coleman put a shot on frame, but was unsuccessful.

Wabash doubled its lead in the 58th minute with a key insurance goal. Six minutes after, Wabash tried to grow its advantage, but Monken kept it clear. Monken went on to steer away two more shots for the remainder of the half while Wabash limited the Titans offensive opportunities, including a shot on goal from Perchik off of a corner in the 83rd minute, preserving the 2-0 margin.

IWU remains on the road, Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Rockford University. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
