Women’s Tennis Readies for Two-Match Weekend

Titans take on North Park, Saturday, and Concordia Chicago, Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team takes on its first two-match weekend hosting College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe, North Park University, Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., before a non-conference showdown against Concordia University-Chicago, Sunday, Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m.

IWU (2-2, 1-1 CCIW) is coming off of a 7-0 sweep over Millikin to secure its first CCIW win of the season.

The Titans claimed the top-two doubles flights with seniors Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) winning over Rachel Combs and Braxtyn Madison, 6-2. Freshman Alassea Michel (Dunlap, Ill.-Dunlap) and junior Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) took down Sarah Parsons and Addison Ross, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to book the doubles point.

In singles, following wins from Michel and Van Heuklon, sophomore Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood Flossmoor) clinched the win on court six, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Parsons. Bell rounded out the singles slate with a three-hour marathon, coming back from down three match points in the second set to secure the sweep, defeating Madison 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-8.

North Park enters the weekend at 1-2 (0-2 CCIW), falling 4-3 to Carthage, Saturday, Aug. 29 and dropping a 5-2 decision to Wheaton, last year's CCIW champions, Friday, Sept. 11. The Vikings took down the Illinois Institute of Technology in a non-conference match, 7-0, Saturday, Sept. 5 for their lone win of the season.

IWU leads the all-time series over the Vikings, 20-6. However, NPU has had the upper hand in the last five matches includinag a 4-3 win last season.

On Sunday, the Titans shift their attention to Concordia-Chicago (0-3, 0-1 NACC). The Cougars have dropped every match this season, 7-0 and will face off against Olivet Nazarene tomorrow, Sept. 18 before venturing down to Bloomington. IWU has won all three meetings against CUC with two of the three by a 7-0 margin including last season, where IWU won 13 sets, 6-0 and only dropped a total of three games.
