Five Titans Claim ITA Scholar Athlete Honors, Team Named All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. - Five Titans earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete Honors, announced by the ITA, Wednesday, July 15. Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis was also named an all-academic team. This is the fourth time in the last five years that the squad was named an all-academic team and the second time in the last three years that at least five players were named a scholar athlete.

In order to earn the Scholar-Athlete Award, one must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. For a team to earn All-Academic status, the program must have a team GPA of at least 3.2.

Senior Marianna Arias (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), junior Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood), sophomore Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) along with freshmen Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet) and Avery Anderson (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) represented the Titans on the list.

On the court, IWU closed with a 12-6 record, good for its first winning season since 2010-11 and the most wins by the program since 1991. Ehrlich collected her third All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honor.

Two Titans earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition to go along with three Dave Wrath Academic All-CCIW honorees.

The Titans were one of 177 programs to receive the award and one of five CCIW institutions alongside Carroll, Carthage, North Central, and Wheaton.
