Men’s Lacrosse Hosts North Central for CCIW Opener

Titans take on Cardinals at 4 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will open its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season by hosting North Central College Saturday, April 4. The second leg of a twin bill with the Titan women's lacrosse team, action is slated to begin at 4 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium.

The Green and White (7-4) enters off a 14-9 win over Calvin University Saturday, March 28. Sophomore Owen Miller (Brookfield, Wis.-Brookfield Central) and junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) led the offense with five points apiece. Timothy McHugh net a team-high four goals, while Miller and fellow sophomore Charlie Burghardt (Milwaukee, Wis.-Brookfield Central) tied for the team lead with two assists each. Seniors Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community) and Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) each scooped up a team-leading six ground balls. The trio of Billy McHugh, and sophomores Jaymeson Zackery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) and Jake Sline (Homewood, Ill.-Homwood Flossmoor) led the defense with four caused turnovers apiece. Senior Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) had a strong day at the X, finishing with a 12-of-14 showing. Zackery registered the win in goal, making 10 saves while adding in his first career assist. 

Timothy McHugh leads the IWU offense with 39 points, composed of 23 goals and 16 assists, both of which are team-highs. Junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) follows with 23 points, as his 20 goals are tied for second with freshman Holden Webster (Centennial, Colo.-Arapahoe). Webster closely follows Kahoun in points, having totaled 22 in his freshman campaign. Burghardt is second on the squad in assists with 14, followed by six from Miller and senior Cole Kennedy (Walnut Creek, Calif.-De La Salle)

At the X, Rocco leads the team, having gone 92-of-161 this season, good for a .571 win percentage. Sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) has added 59 wins in 112 faceoffs, giving him a .527 win rate. Zackery leads the team in ground balls with 47, followed by Nordlie's 39. Rocco and Timothy McHugh closely trail, as their 37 ground balls ties them for third. The Titans have scooped up 457 ground balls on the season, the 17th-most in Division III, while their average of 41.55 ranks 19th nationally. 

Illinois Wesleyan also ranks nationally in caused turnovers per game, as its average of 15.45 sits second. Leading the way is Billy McHugh with 26. Zackery and freshman Tyce Baldwin (Aurora, Colo.-Grandview) follows with 16 caused turnovers apiece. 

In goal, Zackery owns a 7-4 record and brings a .543 save percentage into the contest. Over 618:13 minutes between the pipes, he has made 126 saves.

The Titans will take on the Cardinals (1-9) for the 10th time, having won all previous meetings. IWU took the last matchup, 15-12, April 30, 2025, advancing the Titans to the CCIW Tournament Championship. Timothy McHugh led the team with seven points, four goals, and three assists. Nick Schroeder tallied a team-high seven ground balls, aided by a 8-of-17 showing at the X. Nordlie notched a team-best three caused turnovers, and Colin Tervo got the win in goal behind 17 saves. The Cardinals come to town off a 13-6 loss at Albion Wednesday, March 25.
